About GLC

GLC (Gavin Lottering Creations) is now a blog — part organic chemistry journal, part personal thinkspace.

This site explores the intersection of science, design, and big ideas — with a special focus on organic chemistry, green chemistry, biomaterials, and the occasional philosophical tangent.

I’m Gavin. I’m not a scientist by training, but I’ve spent years in deep self-study, conversation with AI models, and obsessive reading — exploring how we might build a cleaner, more sustainable future by understanding the materials all around us.

GLC started as an experiment in AI-generated content. Along the way, it became a launching pad for everything from chemical insight to wood chemistry to product ideas grounded in ethical design. While the business side of that journey has been paused, the exploration hasn’t stopped.

What This Blog Covers:

  • Organic chemistry (with a learner’s mindset and a practical lens)

  • Green chemistry and sustainability

  • The overlooked potential of natural materials

  • Philosophical side quests into science, ethics, and innovation

  • Occasional experiments with AI tools and custom GPTs

This isn’t a peer-reviewed science journal. It’s a personal, evolving lab notebook — where the notes are public, and the questions matter as much as the answers.

Why Chemistry?

Because everything comes down to it — the materials we use, the toxins we absorb, the waste we create, and the solutions we don’t yet see. Chemistry is the quiet engine behind our products, homes, and lives. Understanding it — even at a basic level — opens the door to real change.

Why Canada?

Because we’re sitting on untapped potential. Canada has an abundance of natural resources, yet we often fail to turn them into high-impact, sustainable innovations. This blog looks at what’s possible when we stop exporting raw materials — and start thinking about how to transform them here.

Why Now?

Because we’re running out of time for the old way of doing things. The planet needs cleaner chemistry, better materials, and smarter systems. And the first step is understanding how things really work — from the molecule up.
